The CTA performs unit secretary duties as well Nurse Aide duties for the Clinical Decision Unit under the direction of a registered nurse (RN/LPN) and/or the RN unit manager. He/she acts as the unit's receptionist, assigns patient to rooms, s nursing staff of patient arrival, enters physician's orders into computer, and prepares patient charts. Assists nursing staff by receiving patients at the desk, taking the patient to appropriate room, gives initial patient check in instructions, obtains vital signs, performs bed bath, linen changes, passing of meal trays and assists in transporting discharged patients all within the scope of practice. In addition, the unit secretary/Nurse Aide will order and monitor utilization of selected supplies: office, nutritional supplements, forms and retrieval chart backs. The candidate will perform duties with a customer service focus striving for service excellence.

1) Able to accurately take vital signs, perform finger stick glucometer checks using aseptic technique, provides daily linen changes and bed baths, passes meal trays and assists patient with tray set up when needed. Insures patient rooms are clean and tidy, empties trashes and removes dirty linens timely.
2) Functions as unit secretary for department, answers phones, enters orders timely into computer, greets patient and families with respect and courtesy.
3) Answers patient call lights in person within 2 minutes of patient call.
4) Notifies nurse of pertinent patient care needs, s nurse of unstable vital signs or patient's appearing in distress.
5) Assists with hourly rounding of patients and quickly responds to patient needs.
6) Exemplifies excellent customer service skills in communicating with patients, caregivers, nurses and physicians. Builds strong working relationships with peers and other departments to create a positive work environment.
7) The CTA will demonstrate knowledge of development and norms for adolescent, adult and geriatric customers. They will carry out the plan of care as directed by the nurse.
8) The unit clerk must possess proficient computer skills with few errors on order entry.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Technical/Formal Training:
Must obtain and maintain a current BLS certification. Oklahoma Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient care Technician preferred.

Knowledge/Skill/Abilities:
Has knowledge of basic computer skills. Must exhibit proficiency in oral communication skills. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must be able to perform basic nurse aide duties. Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards under the supervision of an RN/LPN.

Experience:
Desirable characteristics include at least one year of experience as a Unit Secretary with nurse assistant or CNA experience.
