For Memorial Day, we honor those who have served our country. “My grandfather Sam Ward, who passed away on Monday, May 23rd, was a marine from Sand Springs who fought in WWII. He was involved in some of the most intense fighting in the Pacific Theater and fought in the battles for Saipan and Okinawa, including the fight for Sugar Loaf Hill. He used to call me his sugarfoot and take me fishing. I would get up at 4am when I was really young and then fall asleep in the boat.” - Sarah Vann, MA, Oklahoma Heart Institue Sam Ward was featured in the Tulsa Wold last year for their story and video series “Serving Our Country: World War II Veterans Remember.” http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/ww2veterans/world-war-ii-veterans-remember-sam-ward-fought-with-the/article_8e6be1a1-72ef-5697-b96d-b7f8bd50b2c7.html
